In 2012, Brenda Owens—a devoted life member of the Alpha Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and a passionate advocate for health in the New Orleans community—lost her battle with lung disease. To honor her legacy, the Brenda Owens Wellness Event was established to promote health education and encourage active, healthy living throughout our community. Now in its ninth year, the event will host its annual wellness celebration and walk/run on September 27, 2025.

Each year we reach hundreds of community members, and provide a variety of activities such as workout classes, mental health advocacy sessions, health screenings, healthy food demonstrations, and more. It’s a dynamic and inspiring opportunity for individuals and organizations to come together in support of a healthier New Orleans.
